This was my submission to Issue 7 Sweet Magazine – The Edible Design collaboration. Fifteen artists created wonderful pieces that celebrate fabric and textiles in cake.
My piece is inspired by the 2012 Marchese collection worn at the Metropolitan Museum Spring Institute Costume Gala. The 10” cream tier is covered with soft fondant pleating that is flared on the bottom. The beaded bodice effect was achieved with cupcake sprinkles and applying gold and silver highlighter at the same time to give a shimmering effect. The cake is finished with gum paste textured hair sticks, delicate stylized phalenopsis orchids and cake bling for extra sparkle.
