This cake was on my wish list for quite some time now. I had a long weekend this weekend since today is a Public Holiday and I was on vacation leave yesterday, so I played around a little with fondant to create this cake which I designed quite some time ago.

The inspiration for the lace came from a shopping paper bag of a ladies clothes retail outlet. The bag wasn’t even mine but belonged to a friend of mine who had just purchased something from this particular shop. I loved the pattern on the paper bag so much that she very kindly gave it to me.

I had to simplify the pattern a little bit to come up with the actual design I used on the cake but I really love how it turned out. I left the base tier very simple with the drape and bow because since the top two tiers are quite busy I did not want to over do it.

I had originally intended to have a pink/ivory colour palette. However I had some blue left over and used it to try a sample of the lace design and I loved the colour combination of blue and ivory so much that I changed the colour scheme alltogehter and opted for the blue/ivory palette.
