This was a cake I made last year for the “Chattanooga Cake Ace” contest. Our only rules were that the entire cake had to be edible (structure/supports were allowed) and the theme was “Chattanooga”. We decided to make the cake about all the places we love to go that are Chattanooga based. And yes, that is Duff Goldman judging my cake!!
On the bottom tier we did a large square cake and made each side the storefront to some of our favorite places to visit in Chattanooga. Tier 2 was a pizza pan with a pizza representing our favorite pizza joint in Chattanooga. The next tier was all about the UTC Mocs, Chattanooga’s local sports franchise. Next up is the famous Krystal burger, but made entirely from cake. And to top it all off, is the Tennessee Aquarium, one of Chattanooga’s hottest attractions.
We had a great time making this cake, but sadly we did not win. It was the first year the contest was ran, and honestly it could have been ran better. I only got to meet Duff briefly, and we received no feedback on our cakes. I can handle losing, but missing out on constructive criticism from the great Duff Goldman was heartbreaking.
