This is my latest cake, made for our 23rd Wedding Anniversary!!!! Wow how time flies by!!!

I wanted to try a new technique and since I have been admiring all your lovely painted cakes, I decided to try my hand at a little painting myself. This is the first time ever that I used a brush to paint on anything, let alone sugar!! I have to say, however, that I am very pleased with the results. For the flowers I followed the very good tutorial by Natasha Collins, featured on Issue No. 125 of Cakes and Sugarcraft magazine.

Covering this cake was a total nightmare due to the very high humidity in Malta in September. But finally, 2 hours and 1.5kg of wasted sugarpaste later, I finally managed to obtain a decent cover.

This cake started out as a one tier cake, but then I decided to add the bottom tier to give it more height and interest. Only the top tier is cake however, the bottom one is a dummy. I added some simple ruffles to the bottom tier so as not to detract attention from the painted tier. Then I brushed the edges with rose petal dust and added a pink ribbon to the board to tie the whole look together.

I hope you like it!!
