I began attending culinary school part-time because I thought it would be a fun hobby and I wanted to learn the 'science' of cooking, which I always enjoyed.
A school teacher at the time, I had spent most of my 20 yrs in public education teaching visual art to wonderful kids in some great schools in NJ.
While attending classes and still teaching full-time I discovered a love for the creative and visual aspects of baking & pastry arts (and also re-awakened a love of sugar, which I hadn't eaten in 20 years hahaha). The choice to later embark on a 2nd career was a bit impulsive, but it felt right to begin another chapter in life!
My confidence grew after securing pastry jobs in the restaurant industry while I was still attending culinary school; what encouragement! By working with such talented & generous chefs in several different atmospheres (large & small restaurants, tiny cafes and big bakeries) the experience I gained was well worth the exhaustion and diminishing savings account :) Beginning my own business has been challenging; tireless support of family & friends, plus discovering and joining such terrific "caking" communities like this, has definitely kept me going!
