I have seen Sugar Veil piped to make netting before, but they also make mats that aren’t “as lacy” as others. Take a look at this one:

I have been playing with some Sugar Dress lately and I have really been impressed with it. You can get some neat mats on Etsy also. Just search for “sugar mat” or “lace mat”. Good luck!!
