I have never had a problem with metal tips either… the older style with the rolled bottom are particularly strong.
The large plastic ones have split over a period of time, but are generally cheaper to replace, anyway.
I am very “old school”… I have used the disposable bags, but find them “slippery” and uncomfortable in comparasin.
For small jobs, I often just use a bag made from a baking paper triangle.
