When I first started on Twitter I hated it, I didn’t get it, I found it frustrating and rarely used it.
When I opened the account I immediately linked it to Facebook so that when I post on FB it comes up on Twitter. Sometimes I post on Twitter, more so if I am using products from companies in the industry and link to their Twitter account which gives you exposure to their followers especially if they retweet it.
To give you an example of how it does work well when I made a painted birds cake for a wedding in October last year I Tweeted to Chris Packham from the wildlife programmes on BBC1. He immediately retweeted it to his followers which was great exposure for me and then kindly forwarded it to his colleagues as one of them was getting married about the possibility of considering me for his wedding cake. I was overwhelmed and since then some of his followers have said how they would come to me for a painted birds cake as they are keen bird watchers.
You don’t have to spend too much time on there but to start with just follow everybody that might interest you. I use mine to follow everything to do with weddings from florist, fashion designers, cake designers, cake suppliers, wedding venues, etc. People will start to take a notice, the other thing to do is to Tweet photos of cakes etc to those that might be interested. If you want local venues to notice that you are there then keep sending them pictures of your cakes. You can follow organisations about what’s going on locally, keep up to date with shows. I tend to spend 10mins catching up in the morning to see what everyone else is Tweeting, seeing what is trending and what people are talking about.
Try it is my advice, don’t spend too long working it out just check in daily and sometimes I see something that grabs my attention other times not a lot. :) Good luck!
