You are correct that the Onlays do not really fit edge to edge on an even sized cake. The las one i did with the onlay I just space it a little bit between each application. It wasn’t that noticable so that help get it to fit around. I also happend to be using the zebra one so it was easier to have just a small section of the onlay.
