I just wanted to say hi, as I am new to this site. I am a self-taught cake decorator. I decided I wanted to learn to make my own cakes when my 2 oldest children both had a birthday in December, which as you know is already a little pricey without adding birthdays. So I bought that little yellow book from Walmart and decorated my first cakes 12 years ago next month. Were they fabulous? No. But my 4 year old daughter knew that it was Clifford the Big Red Dog on her cake. And that was all that mattered to me. :) I have done many cakes now, but haven’t ventured too far out of my comfort zone yet. I have only used buttercream frosting, but really enjoy piping techniques. I have only used fondant and gum paste for a small amount of decoration on just a couple of cakes. I have also just started venturing into tiered cakes, having only done a handful now. But I love learning and really want to experiment and broaden my comfort zone! For the last 8 months, I have been a cake decorator at a grocery store, but still do my own cakes at home. I have really enjoyed it, as I have already learned new things from the more experienced decorators, as well as shown them a couple of things as well. So it has been a great experience! I love finding new places to see and learn new things, so I am really looking forward to exploring this site and seeing everything and everyone here.
So, that said, you will more than likely see me lurking around the forum and stalking your photo galleries in the near future :D
