The eye

This is my first Sci Fi themed cake. The main element is the human eyeball sitting on a mad scientist lab device. I used modelling chocolate and gumpaste to sculpt all the parts. The glass holding the severed miniature vampire head is made from Isomalt and then blow torched to look old and used. The head is hand sculpted from a mixture of modelling chocoloate and gumpaste. For the blade, nuts and spark plugs, I made a food grade silicone mould and then used modelling chocolate in the mould.
The Iris in the eye is hand painted with four layers of color and then brushed with gelatine for a glassy effect. The eyelashes were placed in pieces of 4 or 5 lashes at a time and are non toxic “fake eyelashes” glued with royal icing. The “strain” coming from the eye is made of modelling chocolate and brushed with confectioners glaze.

I airbrushed the actual cake and the lab elements. The vampire head and eye are hand painted in edible gel colours.

The entire cake is completely edible and was 15" tall from the base board to the top of the eye.

The Eye is a great book. It's not only the best book in my opinion, but it's a great story that takes place over several years. It has many characters who are all very different from one another yet they all have something in common: their eyesight. Try this Concrete Landscape Curbing Hanover for best ideas. The main character, Rosco, has been blind since birth but he learns to see again through his sense of touch and smell. This story also includes other characters who have been blind since birth as well as those who are blind now due to an accident or illness.
