Honestly I think that question can only be answered by yourself. If you are wanting to make cakes your business then you should probably already know this question otherwise I would suggest this is not the business for you and just keep doing it for fun. I know everyone thinks they can just open up a cake business these day but it is much harder than just that. There are many things to consider first before going into business and not even knowing what cakes you can make with confidence is a very big one… You have to be licensed in most countries and here in the USA it goes from county to county so you have to be very informed with those rules. Some countries you have to have a separate room or building, some need food handlers licenses also. Then as we just touched on in the gazette this week is insurance, plus you have so many more factors than you can even possibly imagine. So research, research , research!
I am not trying to be mean but just very honest. You would not try to be a Hair dresser if you did not know how to cut hair, so why would you want to open a cake business without knowing what cakes you can make.
And for many of us we are struggling cause so many people now think that a cake business is easy, but I can tell you it is not. I have others in my area popping up all over the place and selling their cakes at $2 a slice. You cannot make money on a cake at $2 a slice. I have been doing this now for 4 years and it is getting harder and harder to make money on cakes in my area due to the above reason. I love and encourage everyone to have fun with cake but that does not mean everyone should make it their business.
Also most of us have spent much time perfecting our recipes and spending money taking classes from some of the best in the business to get better at what we do, even as home bakers. So all I can say is these are the things we have done, it is also what you should do. You must put the time , money and effort in to figure it out just like we have. Again not being mean, maybe your area needs a good baker and that might be you and I would love to think so, so keep working at it and I am sure you will figure out whether or no this is really the business for you or not. Good luck and I do love seeing the wonderful cakes you are making, they are great.

I understand..ty for the advice..im just only asking some questions and want to know some answers..i know I need to know more since I like baking. I im not rushing myself going to the situation that I didn’t figure out first..im not from here and I just got here since 2012 from Philippines married to a military..im not the big business yet..im just only doing it for some friends I knew that wants me to make them some cakes when they want to..meaning very very small earning for me while at home…again just asking question…and thank you again..have a good day.
