Chocolate cake is a preferred choice by adults and kids alike, especially for birthdays and also weddings. A rich & moist chocolate flavoured cake is as fun to make as it is to eat. Although a typical chocolate cake is made using melted chocolate or cocoa powder, other ingredients like fudge, vanilla creme and other sweeteners can also be included in the recipe.
Preparing a simple yet delicious and mouth-watering chocolate cake is quite easy. It also hikes up the fun of the ocassion because, afterall, who doesn’t love a unique birthday cake made from chocolate!
Ingredients required for preparing the chocolate cake:
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 1 and ¾ cups of flour (including some extra for dusting)
- ¾ cups of cocoa powder
- 1 and a ½ tablespoon of baking powder
- 1 and a ½ tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 cup of reduced-fat milk
- 1 cup of hot water or hot coffee
Other necessary requirements:
- A large mixing bowl
- A wooden spoon
- A hand mixer
- A toothpick
- A cooling rack
Method of preparation:
- Step 1: Preparing the oven and pans – Heat the oven to a temperature of 350 degrees Farenheit. Grease the two baking pans with softened butter and lightly dust the pans with flour. Set them aside.
- Step 2: Preparing the chocolate mixture – The flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt needs to mixed and stirred together in the large mixing bowl until they are thoroughly combined.
- Step 3: Making the chocolate batter – Crack the two eggs and mix them with the concoction in the large mixing bowl. Add milk and the vegetable oil and beat on a medium speed for one or two minutes until smooth.
- Step 4: Mixing the vanilla and the hot water or coffee – Add vanilla to the chocolate batter and beat slowly for one minute. Then pour the hot water or coffee and mix well.
- Step 5: Bake the cake layers – Pour equal amounts into the pans and bake the mixtures in the oven for around 35 minutes.
- Step 6: Toothpick test – Insert a toothpick into the cake; if it comes out clean, without any crumbs sticking to it, the cake is ready.
- Step 7: Cooling – Place the cakes on a cooling rack, and after 2 hours, put the layers on a cake stand and frost as desired.
