Hello My Lovelies,
I hope you all had a joy filled Christmas and fabulous New Year celebrations. Did you make lots of lovely Christmas cakes and bakes? I was very slack in that department but I had a pretty good excuse…on very short notice, I flew to New Zealand with a 3 tier 50th Wedding Anniversary/Vow Renewal cake for my wonderful Aunty and Uncle in New Zealand! And yes…I did say 3 tier ;)
I was very honoured to be asked to be a part of their vow renewal ceremony, so decided to surprise them with a cake. I was dreading the cake being damaged or worse confiscated but my fears were unfounded. Every person and member of staff I dealt with was incredible! The Virgin Australia cabin crew were beyond fantastic!!
My Aunty and Uncle were thrilled with the cake and even though I had assembled it in a hotel room at 3am in the morning it didn’t turn out too badly. So a bit of a tip…if you’re traveling with cakes…I can’t recommend stencilling highly enough. It may not be a highly advanced technique, but if you have any mishaps (one tier slid across into the side of its box) it is less likely to show any damage.
Seeing them cut the cake was really the highlight of my caking year. They are incredibly special people and have been a huge and treasured part of my life. I don’t think there has been a moment before in my cake career that has shown me more strongly, just how amazing and magical it feels to be able to create something with love to show someone how much they really mean to you.
