Hi, I started cake decorating in July and am absolutely loving it. This cake was made for my daughter’s 21st birthday and was made in quite a bit of a rush. I originally made her a ‘dog’ cake to look like her Yorkshire Terrier but I wasn’t happy with it and didn’t think it was special enough. This was on the Friday and her birthday was the Saturday – hubby ran out to hire some number tins while I made a super rich chocolate batter. Never having hired tins before I didn’t realise they had no ‘bottom’ so the very runny mixture seeped out over the baking trays lol. Just made sure I filled it up more than I would have and the cakes ‘rose’ to the occasion nicely. Spent all Friday evening (well until 2.30 Saturday morning actually) making flowers etc and then filled and crumbcoated cake with raspberry jam and buttercream. Hour or so in fridge and then covered cakes with fondant – VERY exciting moment as I managed to do them both in one piece – didn’t think I’d be able to do that! Although no ribbon round board in the pics, I DID put some on before taking the cake which was finished half an hour before we were due to go out – needless to say I had to get ‘dolled up’ VERY quickly. Upshot of it all is though that she LOVED it and so did I – really felt it was a good achievement, especially given the speed!! Hope you guys like it xx
Beautiful cake ;)
