Topaz is the birthstone for November so I chose a yellow theme for my Mom’s 60th birthday dessert table. I think it is nice and bright and perfect for a party.

I also added a few horses because Mom is mad about them and had a trekking holiday for her present – I was asked at one point to settle an argument over whether the toppers were cows or hippos! I hope everyone else recognised they were horses.

This was my first ever large iced cake. It was 8 inches and I wasn’t entirely happy with the finished outcome but I think the only way to get better at it is to keep making more!

In addition to the main cake I did horse cupcake toppers, and other cupcakes with flowers and 60 on. I also did some grey and silver icing topped vanilla biscuits, yellow (lemon flavour) rose topped biscuits, daisy biscuit lollipops and bought yellow and silver balloons, napkins, two flower arrangements and made a backdrop using black and white photos in the shape of 60.

Mum had an ‘open day’ so I was glad I made so many things as they didn’t last long!
