I had so much fun making these cupcakes! My friend ordered them for her daughter’s 10th birthday party which took place at the theatre on opening day of Oz the Great and Powerful. I decided to make cupcakes to represent the majority of the main characters (Oz, Theodora, Glinda, the Wicked Witch) and the Yellow Brick Road. I watched the trailer to familiarize myself with the movie and the characters, and when I saw the Wicked Witch scratch her nails across the table….I knew I had the most perfect cupcake topper!

When contemplating the cupcakes, I wasn’t sure if fondant toppers would soften while sitting on the icing for several hours (any feedback would be much appreciated!) so I came up with a plan. The toppers are made of fondant, except for the witches hand and the disc it is sitting on – it is gumpaste. What you don’t see is that the other toppers made of fondant are attached to gumpaste discs so that the fondant doesn’t touch the icing and have a chance to soften. That was my fix!
