Sharing some backstories about my Sugar sculpture. Santosh, as I fondly have started addressing him, is a humble Indian farmer wearing his modest linen shirt, tri-colour turban, and a handpainted muffler. I tried to sculpt his face to highlight his hard work in the sun, sunken eyes, obvious tan, and deep wrinkles from working long hours in the sun. Indian farmers are pretty much the backbone of our country and drive our nation’s economy. It was heartbreaking to see “the farmers’ crisis “in India escalated to a worrying trend, with close to 750 farmers losing their lives in their protest in North India. Their plight and suffering made me want to create this hardworking man and I hope I managed to do justice. Farmers are still resilient, positive, and persevering against the odds. I am a proud Indian and this is my Modest Sugar Tribute to our “real-life “superheroes.
