I couldn't wait to share the most challenging, yet most interesting CAKE I've ever made! It's a Toyota Land Cruiser Engine. Hope you can remember the Toyota Land Cruiser I made a couple years ago for an 18th birthday, so that birthday boy is now 21, a diesel mechanic and his mum wanted to surprise him again with his favourite engine this time (and another cake that is yet to be revealed) .
To be honest, I have zero knowledge on vehicles. When I make vehicle cakes I use tech drawings, lots and lots of photos, car models, also keep my hubby stand by to draw and explain details, (he's got a cupboard full of model cars collection) and when it comes to vehicle parts, I AM HOPELESS!
The most challenging part was to find tech drawings and photos, I found some photos on Gumtree of an engine that was on sale and had to draw the tech drawings by myself as there weren't any available. It took me about a couple of weeks for the research and drawings.
The research part for this cake began early August, at one of our mechanic friend's workshops, looking at engines (for the first time of my life!) All I remembered was the FAN!
Ten days before Doug's Cakes were due, I got the flu. Thank goodness it lasted only for 3-4 days. The night before the delivery I worked without any sleep. Everything on this cake is hand crafted and edible
Anyhow I'm absolutely thrilled how it turned out, and was also extremely grateful to hear how much Doug, his mum and his friends LOVED the CAKE! Nailed it!!
