Lady Spider - Creepy World Collaboration

This is my sugar piece created for Creepy World – ArtCake Collaboration, hosted by Brenda Salcedo. The goal of this International Collaboration was to create a gallery of the scariest Halloween pieces possible: to exorcise whits cakes the fears and legends associated with this time of year.

My piece is inspired by Olya (a French artist) and by eyesball spiders tatoos! I wanted to make a creation that scares or disturbs, but not one that disgusts with too much hemoglobin.

It was the first real sculpted bust for me, and a real challenge as much in the form’s realization as in the materials I used. The face is made of Pasta Top and Sculptura, a very particular modeling sugar paste, with properties that are very similar of clay. The rest of the details are done in Pasta Top and Pasta Model. For the spider, I used the Pasta Model with powdered pigments diluted with white alcohol and a layer of Liquid Shiny (glaze) from Saracino.
