I received this special request cake for a 50th birthday, and I wasn’t sure how I would go about creating it at first. I was asked to create something that had specific items, mountain, kayak, water, map/compass, orienteering flag, a log and a snake and tried to make sure that the scale was small, since they didn’t want a huge cake. I enjoyed painting the mountains and creating the water, but in all of this, I learned that I should measure my cakes before I start icing and placing fondant, which is what I didn’t really do for the mountain, so it was larger than it needed to be, but I made it work. My client and their guests really enjoyed it.
