Bir gün Hoca, eşeğine binerek , arkasına takılan bir kısım insanlarla birlikte, camiden eve dönerken birdenbire durur, hayvandan iner ve yüzü insanlara dönük olarak eşeğe ters biner, yani semere ters oturur. Bunu görenler yaptığı hareketin nedenini sorarlar.
Hoca şöyle der:
— Düşündüm taşındım, eşeğime böyle binmeye karar verdim çünkü saygısızlığı hiç sevmem.
Siz önüme düşseniz, arkanızı bana dönmüş olacaksınız; usulsüzlük saygısızlık olur. Ben önde gitsem, size arkamı çevirmiş olacağım ki bu da doğru değildir. Böyle ters bindiğim zaman ise hem ben önünüzden giderim, siz de ardımdan gelmiş olursunuz; hem de karşı karşıya bulunuruz!

One day, the Hodja, was riding donkey home along with some people from the mosque. Suddenly he stops and gets of his donkey and sits on it again facing the opposite direction and the people following him.

Those who see this ask him why he sits like that.
The Hodja says:
- I thought and I decided to ride opposite side like this because I don’t want to be disrespectful.

If you are to walk in front of me, then your backs would be towards me and that would be disrespectful.
If I am to ride in front of you, then I would be turning my back to you, which would not be right.
When I sit the opposite direction and ride like this, I go before you, and you come after me; and we can still be face to face!

Gülen güldüren, düşünen düşündürene öğretici (didaktik) fıkraları vardır.Unesco, 1996 yılını Nasreddin Hoca Yılı olarak ilan etti. Çeşitli etkinlikler, özel yayım ya da dergilerin özel sayılarıyla kutlanan yıl kapsamında, ülkemizde sempozyumlar düzenlendi.

Her yıl 3-10 Haziran arası Nasreddin Hoca Şenlikleri düzenlenmektedir.

Nasreddin Hodja; He is a great sage and humor master of the Turkish culture. He has didactic jokes which makes you laugh and think at the same time.
Unesco has announced the year of 1996 as the year of Nasreddin Hodja. Symposiums were organized in our country within the scope of the year which was celebrated with various events, special publications or special issues of magazines.

Nasreddin Hodja Festivals are held every year between 3-10 June.
