I’d rather regret the things I have done than the things I have not
Lucille Ball 1911-1989
For my contrubution to the collaboration “Gone Not Forgotten”, hosted by Sharon Siriwardena I chose comedienne Lucille Ball. She paved the way for many women in television and movies, an industry dominated by men at the time. Lucy appeared in 72 movies in her career but is best known for her television series ‘I Love Lucy’. The series received critical acclaim and won over twenty awards including five Emmy’s.
Lucy was the first woman to own her own studio as the head of Desilu Productions. In 1971 she became the first woman to receive the International Radio and Television Society’s Gold Medal. As an entertainer and businesswoman, she continuously broke barriers for women in entertainment business. Although Lucille died in 1989, her career continues to influence the work of many comedians both male and female.
