Mystical Serenades of Assam

The top tier holds the State animal which is the one-horned rhino – native to the elephant grasslands of Kaziranga National Park. The tier is covered in _Xewali Phool _(night flowering jasmine), signifies the freshness it spreads with its aroma early in the morning .The second tier has the dancing figurines wearing traditional attires of Mekhela Sador (women) and Dhuti – Gamusa (men) doing the Bihu dance. Another focal point is the japi or the conical hat which not just serves as hats for farmers working in the paddy fields but also a sign of respect in ceremonies. Seen in this tier are the _Kopou phul _(Foxtail Orchid) which are mainly used as hair ornaments to be worn by bihu dancers. The bottom tier shows the patterns found in Gamusa – a hand woven cloth native to the State of Assam. The cake board is covered with the original gamusa.
