I am particularly fascinated by the " Catrina" image and even more of her story. It was created by the Mexican society to define the popular social class trying to behave like aristocrats and as a protest for the behavior of some people forgetting their origins and adopting new lifestyles.
For a long time " La Catrina" became a symbol related to the day of the dead or " Dia de los muertos" becoming the cultural image of the lady who takes the souls of those who just departed and helps them cross to the other side.
Either way, it is a symbol of much respect, respect of our past and origins and respect of whats coming next, respect for those who departed and respect for life itself as dead is a reality that reminds us to live!.
Here is my new take on this figure with the amazing acident that by mistake I achieve the " Mona Lisa eyes" effect, she follows us with her eyes and was totally unintentional. I believe that this work that we do takes so much of ourselves that at the end it becomes alive!
