My daughter and her 2 friends wanted to throw a combined 18th birthday party . So had to make a cake, the design of which could incorporate something for a boy and two girls sharing the same cake. Since all were eligible to start driving, when asked for their dream car to drive, the spontaneous answer was a Ferrari. So I made a Ferrari sculpted out of a rich gooey chocolate cake covered with ganache and fondant. Since I had a free hand in designing the cake, I made three figurines wearing the dresses that were to be worn by the birthday boy and the two girls. Initially wanted to make two figures sitting on the car and one standing besides it, as with all kids the count of the invited guests was miscalculated and I was told the cake would fall short. So had to bake a chocolate hazelnut cake on extremely short notice and as I did not have time to do any decoration, to make it presentable I placed all three figures on the round chocolate cake and put some ferrero rochers around it.. To add some excitement for the kids I added LED lights to the Ferrari and to my sheer happiness it not only lit the Ferrari but also lit the faces of everyone in the party and it became the buzz of the party.
