My first proper commission! I was asked by a close family friend to make the wedding cake for her sons wedding in September, they wanted a 2 tier heart shaped cake with cupcakes and it had to be completely nut free as the bride was allergic. The top tier was a lemon drizzle sponge with a homemade lemon curd filling and covered in lemon curd buttercream. The bottom tier was chocolate, filled with chocolate ganache and covered in chocolate ganache buttercream. I used Satin Ice fondant as it is one of the few guaranteed nut free (I did NOT get on with it and in future would rather make my own than use it again!). The cupcakes were lemon with lemon buttercream and a surprise lemon curd filling and chocolate with vanilla buttercream and a surprise chocolate ganache filling. Their colours were Cadbury purple, white and silver and they requested a bride and groom topper plus their 5 kids. Flowers on the cake were chosen to match the flowers in the bouquet – roses, orchids, disianthus and baby’s breath. I finally got to try out my airbrush kit to spray the flowers with pearlescent purple/white and silver – too much fun!
