My daughter’s and nephew’s christening was a wonderful opportunity for a big cake project. I didn’t wanna make two separate cakes, but I still wanted them to each be represented somehow. It was clear to me that I didn’t want a standard christening cake with typcial symbols, but something unique and special.
In Austria “Schnecke” (german word for snail) is a cute nickname, which my daughter already had when she was still in my belly ’cause she would always curl up like one :D And my nephew Samuel is a little lion – which made clear who the main characters on the cake would be. My sister in law (Samuels mom) had the idea of creating a jungle around the lion and a forest around the snail with typical animals. Then I decided to part those two worlds by a river that flows into a lake, which I made with Piping Gel. I took my time, started two weeks before the big day to make the animals and all the decorations around, and planned four days to bake and decorate the cakes. My husband cut out a large enough cake board to fit my little zoo on it and helped my a lot by looking after our daughter so I could work in peace :)
The lion, giraffe and elephant were made after tutorials I found on www.zuckerwelt.at
The owl and hedgehog were made after tutorials by cake dutchess. For the rest I used photos I found on google as inspirations.
Süße Grüße und gutes Gelingen! Maria
Lovely ;)
