My mom is my biggest supporter (and critic). She wanted me to make an anniversary cake for her friend. Naturally i jumped at the chance to practice both in making cake and decorating. This one is had a breakfast cereal chocolate crust, a base chocolate cake layer, Kahlua and hazelnut tinted chocolate mousse and non-dairy whipped cream as the top layer. Finally, I covered the cake with italian meringue buttercream.
This cake was pretty much the one that led me to the kind of cake look i wanted to do – kawaii buttercream cakes.
For the kitties, I jumped to Pinterest for help. This was fun btw! Modelling paste is like playing haha! Atm, my goal is simple but cute toppers. Beginner level :D
Next, because i wanted to be a little distinctive from other flower wreath cakes, i decided to make a simple squiggly wall of dark chocolate around the cake – a technique i learned from julia m usher’s chocolate lace wrap videos. It did not know how to temper chocolate though so i was scared to pieces it would melt. I also made chocolate heart laces, about half of it broke before i could transfer it on cake. Note to self, pipe thicker in the center.
So here it is! :)
Kitties out on a date surrounded by buttercream flowers and white chocolate lace hearts inside a whimsical wall of dark chocolate.
