Practice Cake 8
This cake was made for my sister in law and is a vanilla sponge, with white chocolate buttercream and coated in white chocolate ganache.
I spent a long time trying to work out the colours for this cake. A Facebook page I have started following is Design Seeds. This is a really good source for getting colour inspiration.
The stripe technique i found absolutely ages ago and loved it. I have been waiting for an excuse to give it a go and it worked like a dream.
The letters on the top tier caused me a serious headache, and it was only with a lot of help from my fellow cakey cuties that I was able to get the cutters to co operate. All I have to do now is work out how to put them on straight! The thing that does bother me about the top tier, is that the letters are whiter than the fondant I used to cover the tier with. Two different companies version of white.
The one thing I would change, is how I finished the top of the bottom tier. I wanted to make the panel taller than the tier itself and give it a wavy effect, but with hindsight, I wish I had made it finish flush against the top of the tier. Overall though, I am quite pleased with how this cake turned out.
You can't buy happiness, but you can buy cake & that's kinda the same thing x
