My uncle was ordained as a Catholic priest of the Vincentian order last month. As a home baker, I wanted to gift him the perfect cake on that perfect occasion on a beautiful church by the serene backwaters. As I brainstormed with my friends and family, a few ideas emerged. St Peter’s Basilica, glass paintings that adorn churches, dove to symbolize the Holy Spirit and the blessings of the pope, Francis I. Now came the tough process of incorporating all these ideas into one single cake. This was the final result, a marble cake with the backdrop of the main altar of St’ Peter’s Basilica. The dove is at the centre of the free hand glass painting. Sculptures of Pope Francis I and my uncle kneeling down to receive the blessing were the focus of the cake.
