Not too long after my sheet cake, a new mother asked me to do her boy’s first birthday cake and cupcakes. His room was all foxes and she loves owls, so I did a combo of the two. This was my second cupcake order I’d filled, but the largest cupcake order to date. And the cake was the smallest to date. I can’t remember the last time I used a #13 tip! Making the candy melt animals had to be the funnest part. I drew my own stencils to use for the foxes and owls. I was too liberal with my sprinkles I had for the cupcakes (only made it half way), so I had to go through my secret stash of sprinkles for a complementing combo. And that’s when you know you’re a true baker – you have secret stashes of things you saved for that “oh snap” moment.
