This was my first cake for fondant piecing. The tree was a last-second ditch effort, since the other way I tried to cut it out didn’t fare so well. All the little baby animals are cut out free-hand and faces are hand-painted. It’s french vanilla with my original and double-butter buttercream frosting. My method for fondant smooth buttercream frosting was tested, but I think it came off beautifully. The mother-to-be had no idea she was getting this cake (a gift from a dear friend) and she ran over to me after she saw it and gave me a hug saying, “Thank you”.
