This is a picture of the wedding cake I made for my mother-in-law and her new husband. I was asked to make a cake for the tiny (around 30 people) wedding and was told that she didn’t care what it looked like just as long as it wasn’t too over the top. Carte Blanche! I knew she was wearing a pink dress and didn’t like things that were too ‘frilly’. After looking for some ideas online I came across a few photos that I loved that used fondant pearls as a border and then found a tutorial for making fondant pearls instead of buying them and decided to see what I could do with that idea.
My hubby and I hand rolled over 500 fondant pearls for the cake. I enlisted him for help with this project since it was for his mother’s wedding, it was a great way to get some free labor! We coloured them using Wilton’s pearl dust in both white and orchid pink. The bottom two layers of the cake have white pearl dust on it and the top has a light dusting of the pink pearl dust. The flowers are real and the bling was ordered from eBay.
Here is a link to the tutorial to make the pearls. It’s very easy, though somewhat tedious.
