An Ocean Between, Northern Lights to Cleveland

An Ocean Between, Northern Lights to Cleveland
An Ocean Between, Northern Lights to Cleveland

This was a super-fun cake to make. It was a Going Away Cake for a family moving from Kodiak, Alaska to Cleveland Ohio. So, the base is “Cleveland” with it’s cityscape on a background of orange (which is one of the Cleveland Brown’s colors), along with the guitar in front of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, an Indian’s ball & bat, a Brown’s football, and a shopping bag (because you don’t get much of that here in Kodiak). The middle layer was inspired by an “ocean/wave tutorial” one of the cake pages I follow posted (sorry, I can’t remember which one!), I filled the ocean with a Halibut Tail, a Whale Tail, and a Splashing King Salmon (all native here to Alaska). The top tier is Kodiak mountain-scape with the wind turbines from Pillar mountain and a Kodiak Bear, all backlit by the Northern Lights or Aurora’s.

The Base was Cherry Chip w/ a Vanilla-Almond SMB, the middle was a Mint Chocolate, and the top was a Butter cake with a vanilla custard filling (found here, thank you!), crumb coated in vanilla SMB & then a chocolate ganache…my version of a Boston Creme cake. All layers covered by MMF which was specifically requested :).

Thanks for looking!
