This is my first attempt at a piped butter cream cake. My daughter was 18 two weeks ago, she is an art student and doesn’t like fondant but LOVES butter cream. I am sorry the pictures aren’t very good but they weren’t taken with the intention of putting them on line. When I saw the Rainbow competition though I just had to add this one. The cake is five layers of simple sponge coloured with the various gel colours. Then alternate piped butter cream around the edge. The centre I hollowed out and placed three bags of star burst sweets, quite a surprise when she cut it.
The small off cuts of cake that were made to level them to enable stacking, I threw onto our lawn for the birds, the crows hopped around them for hours and wouldn’t touch it, probably terrified of the nuclear cake crumbs that I had offered.
