Escher Eye on Rind

Back in January I was very humbled to be asked by the gorgeous and talented Shawna McGreevy to join an incredible group of decorators to contribute to a very special edition of Sweet Magazine – The Art Issue.

Each decorator got to choose an artist that inspired them and create a cake based on their work.

I chose Escher…I’m the least mathematical person I know so I thought this would be stepping way out of my comfort zone…and I wasn’t wrong!

I actually ended up submitting 2 cakes…my original design included my version of Escher’s incredible ‘Rind’ effect…unfortunately in my impatience to meet the deadline, I dried it too quickly and found half of it in the bottom of the oven the next morning :(

So what you see here is the largest surviving piece of the ‘Rind’ with the eyeball sitting on top. I submitted both cakes and let them decide which one they wanted to use….they used both yay!!

Thank you so much for an incredible honour and amazing opportunity Shawna and thank you everyone for making such a daunting project so much fun! xxxx

I just can’t stop staring at the incredible creation! You are an artist and that shows so clearly here my beautiful friend!

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits

The one is as beautiful as the other! You did an incredible job!
