This was my first groom’s cake and was refreshingly straightforward to make after the stress of the wedding cake. It is a chocolate brownie cake with chocolate buttercream icing, white chocolate ganache and chocolate fondant icing. The inspiration for this cake was all the fancy chocolate cakes which are made using chocolate cigarillos. I knew, however, that the groom loved kiddy chocolate, especially maltesers, so, when the cake was covered I covered it with Dairy Milk bars around the sides and Maltesers and Rolos in the centre, with exploding maltesers on springy wires as the cake topper. For security and to make the cake look a little more formal an organza ribbon was attached. It went down a storm with the groom and guests.
