“Ho! Ho! Ho! There’s twice as many good children this year than any other year and Santa is in a quandary… He cannot possibly deliver all the presents by himself in one night! To his surprise and delight, his wife Helga (she looks like a ‘Helga’ to me?) has volunteered to help him deliver half the presents. The sacks of presents are already loaded into the spare sleigh and the reindeers are ready to go! She’s dressed in one of his old suits which fits her to a tee and has braided her hair so that the wind cannot mess it up. Here is the jolly couple dividing the lists of ‘nice’ children between themselves… good children everywhere will not be disappointed after all! Hip Hip Hooray for sweet ole Mrs Claus!”

I wanted to make the Santa cake following Royal Bakery’s excellent Santa tutorial for my family’s Christmas celebration this year. A lovely client also requested that I make the same cake for her. Being bored with making Santa cakes (I made a last minute Santa for a gathering of friends the previous day), I decided to make one of the cakes into ‘Mrs Helga Claus’. Thanks to my lovely friend Robin Apted of Unusual Cakes For You who inspired me to make Santa with a moustache by sharing with me her awesomely cute version of Santa. I think he looks jollier with it!
