re: The cake that never was !

I think we have all had those days :) even though Jen’s cake is amazing <3… …….The first cake I delivered when I first started was a wedding cake for a friend.. and it was a disaster :( I live in Florida and it gets really hot here .. and I had map quested the address to the reception.. and well they gave me the wrong way to go.. and I got very lost.. and to top it off the wedding cake started to melt :( .. than I drove up a hill to ask directions and well wedding cakes plus heat and a hill do not mix..lol.. I finally found out how to get there but the cake was a mess.. melted and cracked.. This was a Jamaican wedding.. with rum cake.. and well the men who helped me bring the cake in were very nice and had been celebrating early ..lol and they told me all I needed was a drink and I would be feeling better :) of course I didn’t drink anything and I must add the Jamaican music was playing loudly…… :-D … I guess in Jamaican culture the rum cake brings luck.. and the men kept sticking their fingers in the cake to eat it .. which I was horrified, and kept telling them not to do that :( politely of course but this did not stop them ….. Now I am trying to fix the cake and they keep putting their fingers in it .. so the cake was melted, cracked and had finger marks in it.. and everyone felt I just needed a drink and I would feel better.. when I got home that night I cried very hard :( , but I learned .. I now use dry ice so I don’t have that problem and I never map quest anything I google map since they update every 2 weeks……. So I guess the moral of the story is that when we mess up we learn from it and those things help us to be a better cake decorator .. we learn from our mistakes.. I did give the cake to my friend for free.. and she said everyone loved it and ate it all.. even if it wasn’t purdy :D
