No Styrofoam is only to poke the stick through to hold the neck in an upright position while it dries, the body is entirely gumpaste, you can make without the styrofoam base if you don’t want a stick poking out the bottom however you neck will not be upright it tends to dry at a 45 degree angle from experience, but then you can make the giraffe look a little tired, depends on what look you are going for, if you don’t have a dummy you can also poke a hole in a small box cover with wax paper the sit the bottom of the skewer through hole…hope this helps
