This is my second wedding cake order, but 4th wedding cake I’ve done so far.

I LOVED doing this one as Autumn has got to be my favourite season of all her in the UK… I collected autumn leaves outside to capture the colours and also picked the berries from my garden and placed them in front of me to copy in sugar . The horse-chestnuts I made from sugar as well and used photos to work from to get them looking as real as possible. I used Alan Dunn’s book as my guideline for the acorns and oak/horse-chestnut leaves construction, but used my own colouration using nature as my guide.

the autumnal brush embroidery is royal iced onto fondant-covered, lemon drizzle cakes filled with a lemon curd, white chocolate filling… the bride sent me the most amazing email of not just how good it looked but how much everyone loved the taste… so important.

That gorgeous wood cake base was supplied by the bride’s father who cut it and the bride burnt in the writing. so effective I thought.

Transportation was a a little scary as we had an accident en route, but thank goodness I had not stacked them and boxed them individually and securely, as there was no damage to the cake or any of us either :)

One of my most enjoyable cakes to date :)
