My first cake since I have been diagnosed with mild Carpel Tunnel Syndrome on both hands(the nerves on the wrist get pressed and causes pain and numbness) . Not in the best of moods these days. The best part is I don’t have to do anything ( good excuse) and the worst part is I have to learn the hard way what I can do and not do by doing it ;-). the computer seem to be a definite no no especially the touch pad, piping also seems to be one but doing fondant cakes I would put it under maybe….with this cake middle of my palm and wrist are were aching after doing the tiny vines and roses on the 60.

Extremely sorry to all those lovely cake decorators that I haven’t come by your page and commented on your lovely creations.

Did any of you have this problem and how did you overcome it?….cos I am still passionate about doing cakes and also getting on the computer or the phone to look at all your lovely creations and commenting. I am trying to avoid surgery as of now and trying to rest my hands as much as possible ( but sometimes the temptation gets the better of me like now :-)…..and have four more cakes I need to do before end of this year hopefully it is not too much load!!)

I should be talking about the cake instead of talking about me so sorry about that… It was a last minute request by somebody I couldn’t refuse. Chocolate cake with chocolate filling covered with orange flavoured buttercream and then fondant. Wanted to go subtle this time with the colours. Hope you like it . Got the idea of doing the vines when I went to the display garden at hunter valley and saw all the lovely roses there.

Thank you for looking and for all the lovely support, encouragements and comments that have come my way since I joined Cakesdecor.

What a lovely cake, Sasi! Love how you did numbers! You made a gorgeous cake despite your condition!

So sorry to hear about it! I know how it feels. I had similar condition on my left hand ( luckily I avoided operation), took me a half a year to recover, wearing special bandages every day, avoiding gym was hardest task ( I wasn’t into the cake decorations back then). I wish you quick recovery, all the best! Just keep easy and rest your hands! “Cakey hugs” from me!xoxo

So sorry to hear of your condition. Living with pain is not fun believe me I know. My issue is different but I know all about learning what the limits are in order to avoid extreme pain. Hopefully you will find a way to be able to do what you love to do and do so well. The cake is very beautiful.

Oh Gulnaz, Thank you so much, happy you like the cake. So very glad to hear your positive story , thank you for sharing, It keeps my hopes up and cakey hugs back too :-) Xxxx

Aww… Goreti Sorry to hear about your pains. I guess it is just a matter of working out what our body’s limits are in terms of extreme pain and how much we can handle. Thank you so much for your lovely comment too about the cake

So sorry about your wrists & the pain. Unfortunately, so many of our tasks are repetitive, causing such trouble. I have arthritis in my hands and suffer from migraines. Migraines aren’t as severe now, but still get them, so I can understand your pain …. and frustration. Best treatment is… rest. Hard to hear. Check out phisio… Might help.
All said… beautiful cake….

What a gorgeous cake Sasi!! detail is beautiful, everything is so pretty!! you did a wonderful job! :-)

Am so sorry to hear you’ve not been well Sasi, you poor thing,Carpel Tunnel can be awful and so upsetting when you can’t do the things you want to, but i can tell you my brother had it for quite a while and kept putting the operation off, eventually he decided to have it done and very quickly his hand made a full recovery and has never had any trouble since. Maybe give yourself a time limit and if it hasn’t got better by then maybe consider the opp, i hope this helps a little, i do hope your ok and not in too much pain, sending you a big hug!! and once again your cake is beautiful x

Dear Sasi, I’m so sorry to hear about your pain with carpel tunnel, and not being able to do the things you love to do. My neighbor just had an operation for her carpel tunnel, and she said it really wasn’t that bad, and that they don’t even put you under, just local anesthetic. I like what Elli said about maybe giving yourself a time limit to see if it gets any better.

Despite all your pain, you did an amazing job on your cake! I really love your roses, and the vines on the number!

jchuck , SweetLin and Elli… where would I be without you wonderful people. Thank you so much for you gorgeous words of encouragement and appreciation, It actually makes some of the pain a lot less :-). Cakey hugs to you all :-)

Thank you for being so supportive about my CTS.

Oh Jchuck, very sorry to hear about your arthritis and migraines, They are both very very painful to have, the best thing is like you said REST but that I guess it is easier said than done until the pain gets really bad then we don’t have a choice. Good that you don’t get the migraine as much now. Thank you for sharing too. Thanks, That’s a good idea will check out the physio bit

Aww …. Elli . So very glad that you love the cake. Thank you so much for sharing your brother’s experience. Like you said I can’t leave it for long, have to put a time limit. As Jchuck suggested will try the physio and rest and if it doesn’t work after a time limit will have to think of the operation. Only problem is some others have had bad experience after the operation that was what was scaring me initially….I have had more positives than negatives so far about the operation though…….fingers crossed :-)
