Minions - Evil v's Good

I was delighted when I was asked to make this cake for a boy turning 8. Yay I thought a Minion cake.
The brief was ‘a minion’…….but in my excitement I mentioned it to Jo from Ciccio cakes, and in her excitement she suggested I do one good and one evil (from Despicable Me 2 ) which I had yet to even see but she had.
So one grew into two and at that stage they were going to be side by side…….but then Pauline from Pauline Bakes The Cake just happened to mention that perhaps I should do stacked minions when I mentioned that I would love to do stacked like she does…………. Well, that certainly planted the seed and I thought of nothing else for about half a day. I lost a bit of sleep thinking about how I was going to do this, but armed with the Craftsy Bobble Head tutorial from Mike from Mike’s Amazing Cakes and my husband who helped me construct the support structure I had the base to work with and the rest flowed. I had to go and see Despicable Me 2, for research purposes of course which helped me understand the red jelly and the Evil Minions as well as the lipstick taser that Jo suggested I incorporate into my cake.
This is by far my most challenging cake I think with the support, the cakes stood at a finished height of 50cm, and the different aspects of icing something of that shape and doing it while it was stacked. So a HUGE thanks to Mike’s Amazing Cakes for a fab tutorial and to Jo for the great ideas and for listening to me when I call her up all excited about an idea.
If you have read all this, thanks for reading and for looking :)

Dina thank you so much :) :) I am so lucky to be around such a great community of cake decorators as we have in NZ. It’s really funny but Jo and I live not 5 minutes from each other, we are actually in ‘competition’ but have the most wonderful friendship and chat almost every day…….. Facebook has brought me in touch with so many other wonderful decorators like yourself. :0 :) :)
