Truck Cake

Truck Cake

I made this cake for my granddaughter’s third birthday party. She was so in to trucks. I don’t make the cakes professionally…only for my grandkids….with love.

The ground is made of a chocolate half sheet cake. I cut the corner off irregularly and used it to fill the back of the dump truck. Crushed chocolate rice cereal helped to give it the look of dirt.

The front of the truck is made from cake baked in a loaf pan which gave the front end the nice curved look of a truck. The back of the truck is make of stacks of square cake with a ridge of cake strips around the top to give it the look of being “filled”. Dirt and boulders were made of modeling chocolate, fondant and more crushed chocolate rice cereal. The truck was then covered and decorated with homemade marshmallow fondant.

The wheels were made from rice cereal treats, cut out with a round cookie cutter and covered with fondant. The “tread” was made by using this side of a skewer to press into the fondant.

The bulldozer was made of leftover pieces of the cake shaped and stacked to make the dozer. The treads are made of rice cereal treats and fondant. The smoke stack is a piece of drinking straw covered in fondant. The blade of was made from a graham cracker.

The cake was a big hit and paired nicely with the “under construction” birthday themed party plates and supplies. Best of all my granddaughter loved it.
