I love antiquities, old objects, paintings and works of art. I won’t miss an opportunity to visit antique shops in Turkey or abroad. Of course I can not always afford to buy the pieces that I like. Just like this “Virgin Mary and Jesus” icon that I saw in a small antique shop in Bulgaria. It was beautiful but too expensive for my budget since it was made of silver. I asked for permission to take its picture and decided to make a duplicate with fondant.
I did not use metal, plastic cutters or silicon mold while making the “Virgin Mary and Jesus” icon. All the detail work was hand-made. Faces were painted in accordance with classical iconography techniques.
With this icon I desided to participate in Show piece kategory for Cake Show -Istanbul last weekend. Every detail and shape were formed only with modelling tools at every stage of the work
I built an easel with home made pastillage to exibit the icon and painted with airbrush.
