I was asked (along with five other ‘cakers’) to do a Christmas Cake by the fabulous Shawna McGreevy for her blog. We each had to pick a Christmas song to be the inspiration for our cake and I chose White Christmas.
The line ‘Where trees top glisten’ gave me the idea for the snow and frost covered trees in the foreground. Father Christmas flying by with his reindeer was inspired by what the children in the houses dream of seeing from their bedroom windows when listening for ‘sleigh bells in the snow’.
All the trees, houses and Father Christmas were original drawings and were hand cut. The layers from the houses at the back to the trees in the front were rolled with increasing thickness to help give depth to the scene. The snowflakes were done in the same way – thin in the distance to thicker in the foreground.
It was a bit different for me but was a lot of fun to do – mostly!
