This was a 3-tier square wedding cake with all details and icing in BC, except fondant dogwood blossoms. I couldn’t seem to find a dogwood flower cutter, so I had to use a tear drop shape and cut each petal and shape it. I then made marks with a toothpick to make lines on petals. After I painted petals in a pearl iridescent edible paint, I wasn’t sure if you could see the lines then, so I did try to remark some after the paint dried. I also used pink on the outside in edible paint. and went over with the pearl paint.
I frosted cake in all buttercream and added some scrollwork to sides around where the flowers would go. I pressed the flowers into icing to adhere while icing was still damp from frosting tiers.
I added centers in Buttercream.
I stack my cakes when I arrive on site, and finished up the bottom boarders on the top and middle tier, and added a scallop #4 tip around the beaded boarders just on these two added boarders.
I added a few fresh flowers around the base of the cake, as she did not want a cake stand. I hope you like my first fondant dogwood flowers.. next time I will try Gum paste, as it would set up far better in a quicker amount of time.
