I made this cake for a very special young lady – Jenna.

Jenna came to help/work for me three years ago when Noah was only 3 weeks old. She was only 17 at the time. She has such a fabulous way with children and quickly became a popular addition to our family. Three times a week she would come between 4 and 6.30 p.m. Which if your a parent you know that this is like the witching hours. The older kids are just home from school, hyper, hungry and need to do their homework, whilst younger children are tired, hungry, need a bath and bed by 6.30 p.m. Trying to juggle all their needs was an impossible task, which is where Jenna came in. Not being their mum, the kids listened to her and would happily play with her whilst I attended to a young baby’s needs and made their supper. She painted their nails, braided their hair, read to them, bathed them and would give them relaxing tickles so they were ready for bed. She turned a chaotic household into a calm (well relatively calm) haven and literally saved my life. I think I would have gone crazy without her. There is not a lot I can do to thank her, and I don’t think she really knows what a difference she made to my life, but hopefully this cake will go someway towards letting her know how much she means to us. If anyone sees this who lives in Melbourne she is coming your way at the end of the year to do her teacher training and will be looking to help another family whilst she’s there.
