Once again I feel so very blessed to be asked by cake central to do another cake for their wonderful magazine. With only 7 short days to get it done and not really feeling the dress I tell ya I was struggling. But I had an idea to try something new with wafer paper and although it is nothing wild and crazy I love that it shows how versatile wafer paper can be.
I brush embroidered the cake and 2 pieces of wafer paper that I had cut to the size I wanted first, also this was the first time I have ever used the brush embroidery technique. Then I attached the wafer paper to the cake. I also cut out small flowers of wafer paper with a punch and submerged them in water then layed them over a little girls flower hair clip that I had, yes you read that right a hair clip, lol. When the flowers dried they were then in the shape of the flower with all the grooves and such which added a lovely 3D effect to the cake which matched the fabric on the dress. I also cut tiny little leaves and added them bit of the fine for some more effect and depth to the cake.
As some of you know I never get asked for flowers so these were a little challenging and for the life of me I could not get the color to match. I was not sure about the crown but am so glad I did decide to do it and it was a nice learning experience. I am so grateful for these magazine opportunities as they really let me do the type of cakes I would like to be producing. But until I have customers that want them then they will just have to stay in my head till the next magazine or collab come along, lol.
Big hugs xoxoxoxo

Wow, you did an amazing job!!! Such a lovely cake!!! Love how you used the wafer paper to emulate the sheer material of the dress! In fact you can just see the royal iced design of the cake through the wafer paper!!!! Brilliant idea!!!
